The Chard Hash was founded by Grand Master Jim Lay (hash name "Legs") in 2002. He spent his early hash days in Brunei, before semi retiring in Chard, hence the club name. The first hash was on 2nd March 2002 at the Howley Tavern, with a total of 20 hashers. Needless to say every one had a down down!!
Struggling through the early days was a challenge, but Legs managed to keep things going with the help of "Reluctant B", "Lizard" & "Jewels" to name a few. The Grand Mistress "Lizard" Liz Kent kept the hash going while Legs spent many months working away. Legs and Reluctant B decided to sell up and move to the Orkneys in 2006 and Legs set his last hash on 15th Aug 2006. "Runnit" Ron Hollick then took on the role of Grand Master, with back up from Grand Mistress "Biotic Woman" Jacqui Rodes in 2007. Runnit carried on until Sept 2009, before deciding to call it a day. "Wizzer" Ken Winstone is the current Grand Master, abley asisted by "Moley'O" Lynne Ough and various other commitee members.
The people of Chard were so proud of the success of John Springfellow’s powered flight in Chard in 1848, that they used it as the towns Logo. Legs therefore decided to also include it in the hash house logo.
